sandra gee observed: "May 26, 5:38am Mom in via the front door with a small fish and a couple of seconds later Dad enters via the back door. The 'let is up and right to the table...Mom is feeding the fish to the babe and he is eager to eat. Not sure if Dad brought food with him. I've been gone a few days and really notice the change in our little one......much larger, and a lot of darker feathers have come in and he seems to be getting very vocal."

jkr observed: "May 26, 7:16 The dark feathers on his head are becoming very predominant as his down feathers are being shed."

jkr observed: "89:42 to 9:46 Not sure if this is normal behavior but the eaglet's leg has been making "shivering" motions right after each leg/wing stretch. He's been asleep the entire time."

Sierra observed: "May 26, 1:33 pm I noticed his walking is getting better."

jkr observed: "3:09 Fuzzy is up and turns for a poop shoot off the side. He trips once on his way back to the centre of the nest and then trips again, falling on his right wing, while heading toward the direction of the CU cam. Maybe the wind is forcing him off balance."

terrytvgal observed: "4:12 noting that chick has been alone on the nest for 2 hours." (parent returned briefly at 4:58)

Several people observed parent (probably Mom) arriving with prey (probably fish) at 6:52 and feeding for about 4 minutes. Second parent arrived with prey (probably rabbit) at 7:02; feeding lasted about 17 minutes.

Bunnybits observed: "7:42 Another small fish just brought in! Adult is feeding. 'let too full to move!"

ostrich observed: "7:43 "Interesting: it was noted yesterday by someone that deliveries seem to be happening a lot in the late afternoon/early evening recently. This seems to be happening again today."

kringlecat observed: "8:10 'let seems overly full from feeding; doesn't seem to be able to get real comfortable and stay asleep.....its crop is bulging!"

Sidney eaglet
wendybacalar's photo - May 27

jkr observed: "May 27, 7:11am Have noticed that Fuzzy's crop looks very small this morning."

sandra gee observed: "8:10am.....Parent in with food, quiet arrival. The chick is vocalizing while eating and is quickly snatching food as it is offered."

(Note: not all feedings are being reported in this summary - just those that have interesting additional components.)

jkr observed: "May 27, 4:11 Poop shoot right at the CU cam. Eeeeeuw--- just missed the lens but the sticks are covered."

sandra gee observed: "4:13pm I sure wish this little one would quit with the wingercizing and standing so close to the edge at the same time, and on top of that such a windy day."

sandra gee observed: "May 27, 4:52 Parent in the front door with food....the chick is up and just a squealing. Parent, I think this is Mom, is ripping and ripping at ???? but not feeding the chick and I don't think she is eating either. The chick is impatient and reaches over to try to grab some. Mom eats some and now, at 4:56 the chick is getting the odd tidbit, but Mom gets the majority of this meal."
Soundguy observed: "This could possibly be the parent teaching the nestling to eat on its own and not rely on the parents."
Sidney eaglet
Eagle Lover from NYC - Starr's photo - May 28
lyndabird observed: "May 28, 10:45 amThe 'let has found something to chew on and is holding it very well with his feet and biting bits off. His back is to the CU cam and he's at the base of the tree trunk, far from the dining area food, so not sure what he has. But he is doing a reasonable job of holding it and biting. He did this for approx 2-3 minutes and then went on to preen."
Sidney eaglet
wendybacalar's photo - May 28

kate_oneill observed: "May 28, 11:23 patient eaglet, resting alone in nest bowl, beak almost on CU camera. Busy preening those 30,000 new feathers (not an exact observation!). When he/she halfway gets up pivot slightly, it takes a big neck heave to get the necessary momentum. That's a lot of bulk to be moving, even 10 degrees. What an incredible rate of growth!"

kate_oneill observed: "May 28, 2:06: Babe plodding around. This is one ungraceful eaglet. Walks like it's wearing lead overshoes!"

Sidney eaglet
BBE's photo - May 28

kate_oneill observed: "May 28, 10:00 pm no food arrived at the nest during the entire time I was observing the nest beginning at about 5 pm."

Not sure if the eaglet ever ate the fish that was delivered in the morning; reports suggest s/he did not seem especially hungry. There were several reports of wingercizes and lots of reports of preening.

jkr observed: "May 29, 6:15 am Dad arrives with breakfast and Fuzzy is ravenous. He's gobbling chunks as fast as dad can feed him. When the food isn't coming fast enough Fuzzy makes attempts to grab the food on his own."

lyndabird observed: "May 29, 6:23 am Chick does a few flaps and attempted hops and walks fairly steadily across to the CU cam and sits down."

Janner observed: "May 29, 7:27 - chick stretching up on her legs - walking about!"

kringlecat observed: "May 29, 7:30 I see that Fuzzlet is much steadier on feet now. It's amazing how quickly things change from day to day with the eaglet."

I Love Barbaro observed: "May 29, 8:15 - Whoa! Just logged on to see Primper wake up and stand. He is huge! For the first time, he is beginning to rival the size of his dad! This is a whole new ballgame. He has definitely crossed the threshhold from eaglet to adolescence."

I Love Barbaro observed: "May 29, 8:26 - Parent in again with more food. He(?) seems to be eating most of it himself, his back to Primper. Not to be deterred or out-manuvered, Little One steps right up next to parent, practically beak to beak, and is now being fed. Oh, some strategy going on here: LO is now helping himself, having moved the entire entrée over in front of him. Parent quickly corrects that move and brings the plate back in front of him and once again, begins feeding Little One"

"Feathers"

"The kidlet provides us with a 360 degree view of her feather development."

I Love Barbaro observed: "May 29, 2:11pm - OMG!! Junior just did his first wing flapping...like practice-flying! I have not seen what other posters have been referring to wingercizing, and maybe that's the term they have been using to describe what Junior just did. If that's the case, then this was no big deal. But he was actually standing a bit on his toes and flapping his wings as though he was flying."

slickrock observed: "May 29, 2:05 PM Tuned in to see our 'let walking around the nest looking so grown up! He's so big now and walks around pretty confidently and strong on those legs today.
2:10: Major flapdancing! Look at him go! Hopping about like Sid and Vic used to do! His wings have really gotten long and so many feathers now. I didn't get on the cam all weekend and in just 2 days those feathers have gotten much longer!"

I Love Barbaro observed: "May 29, 2:21pmHe is definitely exploring his horizons more and more and seemingly staying awake for much longer blocks of time. It seems as though he has made some real gains in the last several days, both in size and in maturation."

lyndabird observed: "May 29, 5:00 pm He has grown so much in the last couple of days, including his brown feather coverage."

slickrock observed: "May 30, 10:38 am: Kid is up and around. He appears more feathered out than yesterday even. Today there is less white fuzzy down between the feathers and he's more evenly dark and feathered. His tail also seems longer today. It's just amazing how much he grows OVERNIGHT!
10:47 am: I noticed when he was walking around that he seems a lot more steady on his feet and his legs seem much stronger and sturdier than than were last week."

"Dad and Fuzzy"

sandra gee observed: "May 31, 6:38 am The chicklet is now doing some major wingercising, hopping and stretching of his legs... I am amazed at the size of him....a little butterball and especially with not a lot of tail feathers yet."

wendybacalar observed: "May 31, 6:39 Fuzzy did about 5 seconds of wing flapping - fully extended with a few jumps."

trek observed: "May 31, 9:36 am I cannot believe how fast he is growing. He looks so tall. Standing up straight not hunched like he usually does. He is looking for bits in the nest and occasionally checks out the field activities. Now he is doing some wing flaps while hopping."

"Thought this might be useful to anyone who is interested in the different kinds of fuzz and feathers eaglets have"
lyndabird observed: "May 31, 12:21 pm Mom arrives with a small fish and drops it. Eaglet quickly picks it up and pulls it away from Mom but there's a tussle and Mom takes it back and feeds it to him."

trek observed: "May 31, 12:50 I think the babe may have discovered the CU cam. His head is right upside down and he appears to be chewing on the lens..too too funny."

gordon24freak observed: "12:49 Hello to the kid! He is sniffing us out, very close to the CU cam, we can see his nostrils, down his throat and his little eyeballs. He is trying to pick at the camera lens, oh if only he could talk."

ostrich observed: "May 31, 5:24 - now the 'let is doing some nestorating of his own, and moving some sticks around. Fuzzy is taking charge - that's his favorite spot and he's going to decide if he likes sticks there! This is very interesting and different behaviour - I don't think we ever saw Big or Lil take such an interest and action in arranging the nest." (this follows 20 or so minutes of nestorations by parents.

lyndabird observed: "May 31, 6:08 pm The eaglet is using his feet to hold something there and he's picking at it. Not sure if he actually got something to eat, but he was able to grasp something with his talons and start to pull with his beak. He tried for about 3 minutes.
6:37 pm Fuzzy is doing a lot of jumping and flapping! He's very stable on his feet and is hopping as he flaps."

sandra gee observed: "May 31, 10:00....Okay, as of 10:00pm...no parent was on the nest"

wendybacalar observed: "June 1, 5am Fuzzy is sleepily picking at grass while laying down, near the c/up cam. No parent visible on the tree or nest."

"Our little Fuzzlet fed itself today!"

wendybacalar's photos - June 1
(six weeks old)

sandra gee observed: "June 1, 6:07am.....Parent in and the chick is sqealing like mad....Parent is just standing with back to front of nest, with the chick standing beside. Very difficult to see, looks like Parent brought a fish in and fuzzy has it, but doesn't quite know what to do with it. Parent is not helping him at all....just standing there...must be Dad, but cannot tell. Parent has now moved to the back door and the chicklet is exercising his wings note:....the crop is empty.
6:18 am.... Maybe Parent is trying to teach him to prepare a meal himself...and when he gets hungry enough....he will. Parent still gazing out to the meadow.....Looks like Dad with the long legs. The chick is now picking at what I think Dad brought in....Yeh!!!! So, it does look like he is feeding himself. Dad turns around and at 6:24am leaves via the front side door. I think he is eating what Dad brought into nest."

wendybacalar observed: "June 1, 6:30 I agree Fuzzlet fed himself from 6:22-6:26. If it was nestovers he would have been at them earlier. So Dad dropped food and let the eaglet fend for himself. Very cool."

jkr observed: "June 1, 6:54 As he turns around I notice his tail feathers are becoming very well developed."

sandra gee observed: "June 1, 8:07am Note....Just want to mention that I was on here until 10:00 pm last night and Mom did not return to the nest, and if she has not been here very early this morning....it has been since Lynda's post at 6:17pm yesterday since she has been on the nest....all you experts out there....is this strange?????"

"12:31 pm - Our girl got tired of waiting & is feeding herself {the proposed plan}, 1st right on the edge putting a wing up & down to balance, thank goodness she carried it into the dining room & continued eating there several minutes"

Sidney eaglet
Eagle Lover from NYC - Starr's photo - June 1

jk observed: "June 1, 9:55 am eagle time. Fish delivered (lots of wiggling) by Dad. He left. Kid begged for a feeding but Dad left. Kid is having a go at feeding him/herself.
9:58 eagle time....kid is not persistent about trying to learn to tear food. Has already given up on the job. Fish is in the dining room for reference.
"

lyndabird observed: "10:24 am PDT Eaglet is 'seated' at the dining area but hasn't eaten the fish." (Parent arrived shortly thereafter and fed the eaglet.)

wendybacalar observed: "12:27-12:30 Chicklet is at front picking at nestovers. Is using beak to pull and maybe a little foot holding on the prey. It's hard to tell from this far away if talon is holding down the food. Yes the food is under the talon and chicklet is feeding self."

jk observed: "12:27 pm He/she is eating. I think the last visit by a parent only ripped open the food so it would be easier for our chick to do it him/herself. We are watching school here."

lyndabird observed: "12:38 It is clear from the c/up that fuzzy is using the left foot to hold the prey down while picking at it and the right foot for balance."

terrytvgal observed: "7:56 NOTING last sighting of a parent at the nest was 5 hours ago."

sandra gee observed: "9:11pm....Parent calls can be heard in the background.....chicklet takes notice...nice to know they're at least close by......he spends so much time alone." (parent did not return to the nest as it got dark)
